One of the most important results, according to the Ecuadorian State leader, Rafael Correa, is that Ecuador obtained 50 million euros from Germany to carry out the project and he underlines that Spain is also in process of approving the proposal.
Correa welcomed the results obtained during the XIX Summit of Iberoamerican Nations held in Portugal, during which was approved the official statement of the Ecuadorian Initiative Yasuní-ITT.
The proposal to leave under ground the oil of the Yasuní-ITT field, of a capacity of 850 million barrels, to avoid the carbon dioxide emissions and to preserve the biodiversity of Ecuadorian Amazonia has been supported by the State leaders who seek measures to face the climate change and to guarantee the conservation of Amazonia.
The initiative has received support from the Unasur, the Mercosur, the Africa-South America summit, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs from the Rio Group, among others.
Correa also indicated that Father Miguel D’Escoto, former President of the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN), praised the Yasuni initiative qualifying it as an action which will benefit the entire continent and the world.
